Immediate Dentures

Dr. D. Fritz & Dr. J. Fritz in Bettendorf

An immediate denture is a complete denture that is fabricated prior to tooth extraction. The denture is inserted immediately following the removal of teeth at the oral surgeon’s office.

The fabrication of an immediate denture requires a series of appointments in our office. It consists of impressions, bite records, and an evaluation of the proposed tooth position. The finished dentures will be delivered to the oral surgeon’s office where they will be inserted. Adjustment appointments will begin in our office the day after extractions, and then as needed, to monitor the fit of the immediate dentures.

As extraction sites heal, the bone supporting the immediate dentures will change and shrink. This causes the dentures to loosen and necessitates the dentures be relined, or a new set made, usually within the first year of wear.
