Dental Crowns

A crown is a dental restoration that completely encircles or caps a tooth or dental implant.  Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the health of a tooth or a large portion of a tooth is fractured off.  Crowns are often used to improve the strength and appearance of teeth.

Crowns are generally made of porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-gold, or gold.

Completing a crown requires at least two visits in our office.  Initially we will shape the tooth, removing any decay present and make an impression of the prepared tooth.  A temporary crown is fabricated and temporarily cemented to wear until the permanent crown is ready.

At the subsequent visit the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is fit and adjusted.  The crown is then cemented into place.
